Delhi High Court Grants Relief to Panchsheel Enclave Residents; Orders Deployment of Traffic Officials to Curb Wrong-Side Driving

(Panchsheel Enclave Resident Welfare Association Vs UOI, order dated September 26, 2025)

Delhi HC traffic

The Delhi High Court allowed a writ petition filed by a member of Panchsheel Enclave Resident Welfare Association who sought relief for illegal wrong side driving. Justice Sachin Datta stated that it was pertinent to curb traffic violations, install barriers, and ensure public safety.

The case arose when the petitioner, a member of Panchsheel Enclave RWA (Resident Welfare Association) repeatedly brought the issue of illegal wrong-side driving at Josip Broz Tito Marg and Siri Fort Road to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) , South Zone (Respondent 4), via various representations. However, despite these efforts, the Delhi Police took no action to address the issues, prompting the petitioner to approach the Court seeking a writ directing the respondents to draft a policy to curb traffic violations, install trees or barriers to prevent wrong-side driving collisions, and pass any other orders in the interest of justice, public safety, and equity. The petitioner also sought deployment of traffic officials at specific locations.

The Court directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to immediately deploy traffic officials at the following locations: six at the intersection of Josip Broz Tito Marg and Siri Fort Road, two near Arun Jaitley Park, two near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump, and two near Panchsheel Enclave Gate No. 3.

The respondents were also directed to file a status report, and the matter is listed for hearing on January 1, 2026.
