The Delhi High Court granted a significant ‘Dynamic+’ ex parte ad interim injunction in favour of JioStar India Pvt. Ltd. (formerly Star India Pvt. Ltd.) to prevent the unauthorised streaming of matches from the India Tour of England 2025. The plaintiff, having acquired exclusive digital media rights from Sony, approached the Court against multiple rogue websites that had previously streamed IPL 2025 content without authorization and were expected to repeat such infringement during the upcoming series.
The Court acknowledging the real-time and evolving nature of digital piracy, restrained several websites including criclk.com, hesgoaled.com, mafiatv.live, and 24cwc.com from illegally broadcasting the cricket series. The Court directed Domain Name Registrars (DNRs) to block the websites and disclose complete registrant information, including IP addresses and payment details. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) were also ordered to block access to these sites and to act promptly on any further URLs identified by the plaintiff.
Invoking the concept of a ‘Dynamic+’ injunction, the Court allowed JioStar to notify new infringing websites as they arise, enabling real-time takedowns without requiring fresh court orders each time. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY) were instructed to ensure compliance by ISPs.
Observing that unchecked piracy could cause irreparable loss to rightsholders, the Court stressed the need to adapt judicial mechanisms to the challenges posed by fast-evolving technologies.
The matter is next scheduled for hearing on 13 October 2025.
