The Kerala High Court has admitted a writ petition filed by a fourth-semester LL.B. student from Government Law College, Ernakulam, challenging the restriction on undertaking more than two internships with trial and appellate advocates.
The petitioner contends that this limitation imposed by Mahatma Gandhi University and his college is arbitrary, violative of fundamental rights under Articles 14, 19(1)(g), and 21 of the Constitution, and inconsistent with the Bar Council of India Rules of Legal Education, 2008, which do not impose such a restriction.
During the hearing, the Court issued notice and recorded appearances. The Court directed all respondents to file their counter affidavits/statements.
The matter will be listed for further hearing on a date to be notified.
