The Supreme Court today recalled its earlier order dated 15.05.2025 that directed the utilisation of temple funds for the acquisition of 5 acres of land. The matter was heard by a Bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymala Baghchi, in a batch of writ petitions challenging the Uttar Pradesh Government’s ordinance relating to temple management.
The Court has now constituted an interim committee headed by a retired High Court judge, with representation from the Goswami community and public officials, to oversee the law-and-order situation in the temple area. In light of this development, the Court has stayed the operation of the government-constituted committee under the impugned ordinance until the High Court disposes of the pending writ petitions.
The petitioners were represented by Senior Advocates Mr. Kapil Sibal, Mr. Shyam Divan, Mr. Nikhil Goel, and Mr. Gopal Sankaranarayanan. The petitions have been filed through Advocate-on-Record Ms. Tanvi Dubey.
