The Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) and Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC) are set to host the First Prof. (Dr.) N.R. Madhava Menon Memorial Lecture on “Legal and Justice Education @2047: An Agenda for 100 Years of Independence” on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, at 5:00 P.M. at Bhim Hall, Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
The event will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai, Chief Justice of India, while the First Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Executive Chairman of NALSA, and Chief Patron of CLEA.
As part of the programme, three significant books will be released:
1. Sustainability and Subsistence: Legal Strategies for a Green Planet (Foreword by CJI Justice B.R. Gavai).
2. Disaster Management Laws in Asia: A Retrospect (Foreword by Justice Surya Kant).
3. Law and Society: During and Post Covid Pandemic (Foreword by Attorney General Dr. R. Venkataramani).
The memorial lecture honours Prof. (Dr.) N.R. Madhava Menon, revered as the father of modern Indian legal education and architect of the five-year integrated LL.B. programme. The event will bring together judges, jurists, policymakers, and academics to reimagine legal and justice education in light of India’s centenary of independence in 2047.
The evening will include addresses by eminent dignitaries, reflections on Prof. Menon’s legacy, the book launch, and an interaction session with Justice Surya Kant.
