The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition filed by former Mau MLA Abbas Ansari challenging proceedings in a 2022 hate speech case registered against him.
The Court held that the petition had become infructuous as the trial before the lower court had already concluded. The Court observed that once the trial has ended, there remains no scope for intervention at the pre-trial stage, rendering the plea unnecessary. Ansari had sought relief in connection with charges arising from a speech delivered during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
