The Supreme Court of India has granted interim protection from arrest to actor and filmmaker Shreyas Talpade in connection with a series of FIRs lodged across multiple States alleging his involvement in a multi-crore investment fraud linked to the SAGA Group and its affiliated cooperative societies.
The Petition, filed under Article 32, seeks consolidation of all FIRs both known and unknown arising from the same alleged cause of action, i.e., the Petitioner’s purported association with the Group’s activities. It further seeks transfer of the investigation to FIR No. 20/2025 registered at Gomti Nagar Police Station, Lucknow, the earliest known FIR and requests that no coercive steps be taken against the Petitioner.
The actor has submitted that his participation was purely professional, limited to guest appearances at public events of the Group between 2018 and 2022, without any role in the Group’s operations or financial dealings. He claims that his name has been dragged into criminal complaints without specific allegations or material evidence, amounting to harassment.
A Bench of Justices B.V. Nagarathna and K.V. Viswanathan issued notice to the State authorities concerned and directed that the Petitioner be protected from arrest pending further consideration of the matter.
