Punjab & Haryana HC Dismisses PSPC Corruption PIL Citing Suppression of Facts, Imposes Rs. 15,000 Cost to Disaster Relief Fund

(Simranjeet Singh Vs State of Punjab & Ors, order dated September 11,2025)

PSPCL Corruption PIL

The Punjab and Haryana High Court at Chandigarh on September 11, 2025 dismissed a PIL alleging corruption at Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Jalandhar, due to the suppression of facts from the Petitioner and his prior history in litigation.

The Petitioner sought a PIL to disclose and hold accountable the alleged defaulters of corruption at PSPCL, Jalandhar. But he did not disclose that his license to practice as an advocate had been suspended by the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana on 23.11.22 with suspension still under review.

The Division Bench of CJ Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry observed that the petitioner’s failure to disclose his suspension and the suppression of material facts undermined the petition, and accordingly dismissed it, imposing a cost of Rs. 15,000/-, to be paid to the Punjab State Legal Services Authority Disaster Relief Fund within one week from the date of the order.
