The Supreme Court bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta has dismissed a plea challenging the Telangana Government’s decision to increase reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to 42%.
The petition had questioned the constitutional validity of the State’s move, alleging violation of the 50% ceiling on total reservations set by the Supreme Court in Indra Sawhney v. Union of India. The Court, however, refused to interfere, noting that the issue involved policy considerations and that no ground for judicial intervention was made out.
