The Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur took strong exception to the conduct of an advocate, who appeared for a virtual court hearing while sitting inside a car. The Court emphasized that while video conferencing is provided to facilitate arguments when physical presence is not possible, it does not permit a dilution of courtroom decorum.
The Division Bench comprising Justices Atul Sreedharan and Anuradha Shukla held that the advocate’s conduct demonstrated gross disregard for the dignity of the Court. As a result, the Court imposed a cost of ₹10,000 on Shri Oswal, payable to the M.P. High Court Legal Services Committee, Jabalpur, with a specific direction that the amount shall not be refunded.
The matter is now listed for further hearing on August 26, 2025, with interim relief, if any, to continue until the next date.
Appearances:
Shri Abhishek Oswal- learned counsel for the petitioner.
Shri Harpreet Singh Gupta – learned counsel for the respondent No.2.
