The Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) has rejected a bail application filed in connection with an alleged acid attack on a 20-year-old woman, considering the gravity of the offence.
The bail plea arose from an FIR registered at Police Station Chauk, Lucknow, under Sections 124(1) and 78(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS). he incident occurred on July 3, 2024, when the victim had stepped out of her house along with her cousin. It was alleged that a short-statured man wearing a black T-shirt threw an acid-like substance on her, causing serious injuries.
The informant placed photographs on record showing substantial injuries on the victim’s face and other parts of her body. The Court also noted that the victim, in her statement before the trial court, had identified the applicant as the assailant.
Justice Pankaj Bhatia held that no case for the grant of bail was made out in view of the seriousness of the allegations. The bail application was accordingly dismissed.
