Bengaluru Court restrains Kamal Haasan from making remarks against Kannada Language

Kannada Sahitya Parishattu v. Kama Haasan [Decided on 4th July, 2025]

The Bengaluru Court (CCH-31), passed an ex-parte ad-interim injunction against actor and politician Kamal Haasan, restraining him from making or publishing any statements that claim linguistic superiority over Kannada or defame Kannada language, literature, land, or culture.

The order was passed in a civil suit filed by the Kannada Sahitya Parishattu against Haasan for allegedly making disparaging remarks against Kannada in public discourse. The Court restrained the defendant, his agents, representatives, or anyone acting through him from issuing or distributing any such statements until the next date of hearing.

The Court also directed the plaintiff to comply with Order 39 Rule 3(a) of the Civil Procedure Code regarding service and to issue a public advertisement under Order 1 Rule 8(2) CPC, since the suit was filed in a representative capacity on behalf of all Kannadigas. Compliance with procedural requirements, including submission of process fee and service documents, was ordered within seven days, failing which the injunction would stand vacated.

The matter is next listed for 30 August 2025 for issuance of summons.
