The Bombay High Court issued a notification dated 10 November 2025 clarifying that recordings of live-streamed court proceedings will be preserved only upon specific direction of the concerned judge presiding over the court.
The notification emphasizes that live streaming of court hearings is conducted strictly with the consent of the judge(s) involved. Under the Bombay High Court Rules for Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings, 2025, judges presiding over courts are “Designated Officers” with the exclusive authority to sanction access to recorded live-stream videos.
The court has made it clear that storage and preservation of these live-streamed recordings shall only be undertaken in accordance with explicit directives from the concerned court, including the precise duration for which the recordings should be preserved—normally six months or as otherwise directed by the judge.
