The Bombay High Court in a petition filed by Abu Asim Azmi, MLA and Maharashtra President of the Samajwadi Party, under Section 528 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) seeking quashing of FIR No. 61/2025, registered at Marine Drive Police Station, issued notice to the parties.
The FIR accuses him of offences under Sections 299, 302, 356(1), and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly making remarks in praise of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and criticizing the ruling political party, which the complainant claims hurt religious sentiments and promoted enmity.
The High Court, after hearing the matter, has issued notice to the parties.
