The Central Government has issued a notification revising the fee structure payable to Law Officers for appearances and related work on behalf of the Union of India before the Supreme Court, High Courts, tribunals, commissions of inquiry, and other courts.
Under the revised schedule, Law Officers will be entitled to ₹38,400 per case per day for appearances in suits, writ petitions, appeals, and references under Article 143, and ₹24,000 per case per day for special leave petitions and other applications.
The notification also fixes ₹12,000 per pleading for settling pleadings, including affidavits, and ₹14,400 per case for settling statements of case. A fee of ₹24,000 per case has been prescribed for written submissions and for giving opinions in matters involving constitutional or statutory interpretation referred by the Ministry of Law.
For appearances outside Delhi, Law Officers in the Supreme Court will receive ₹96,000 per day per case, while Additional Solicitors General appearing in High Courts within their jurisdiction but outside headquarters will be paid ₹60,000 per day per case.
The notification further clarifies that where two or more cases involving substantially identical questions are heard together with common arguments, Law Officers will be entitled to only one fee as for a single case.
