The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice on a plea filed by advocate Deepak Khatri, who reportedly appears for the jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, seeking police protection for himself and his family following a firing incident targeting his vehicle in north Delhi.
The matter was taken up after Khatri approached the court, stating that he faces a threat to his life after unidentified assailants opened fire at a car carrying him and his associates near ISBT in the Kashmere Gate area on the night of February 25, 2026.
According to police, five people were travelling in the vehicle when the attackers fired multiple rounds near the Marghat Wale Hanuman Temple. One of the occupants sustained a bullet injury to the shoulder and was taken to hospital, where he was later declared stable and out of danger.
An FIR was registered at Kashmere Gate Police Station under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
The High Court has sought the response of the Delhi Police on the plea seeking security and listed the matter for further hearing on March 13, 2026.
