The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has raised concerns over the recent decision mandating that every Bench of the Delhi High Court will observe one working Saturday each month in 2025.
In a representation dated October 17, signed by DHCBA President Senior Advocate N. Hariharan, the Association stated that while it holds the highest regard for the Full Court’s decisions and supports its initiatives, the Bar was neither consulted nor informed before the decision was made.
The letter emphasises that the functioning of courts inherently requires active participation of advocates, and the absence of dialogue with the Bar has led to genuine hardship and a sense of exclusion. It further highlights that the new arrangement would compel lawyers to remain available on different Saturdays every month, thereby affecting predictability, work-life balance, and professional scheduling.
The DHCBA has urged the High Court administration to reconsider the decision after due consultation with the legal fraternity.
