The Delhi High Court has directed digital media platform Newslaundry to take down certain videos and posts that allegedly disparaged TV Today Network and its channels, Aaj Tak and India Today.
A Division Bench of Justices C. Hari Shankar and Om Prakash Shukla passed the order while hearing cross appeals filed by Newslaundry and TV Today. The Court found that some of the statements made in the impugned content—including references describing TV Today’s content in derogatory terms—were ex facie disparaging.
Observing that continued availability of such content online could harm the reputation of the media network, the Court ordered its removal pending further proceedings.
The matter arises from a dispute between the two media entities over alleged defamatory and disparaging commentary published by Newslaundry.
Appearances:
TV Today was represented by advocates Hrishikesh Baruah, Kumar Kshitij, Pragya Agarwal, Yashaswy Ghosh and Nishtha Sachan.
Newslaundry was represented by Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao along with advocates Bani Dikshit and Uddhav Khanna.
