The Delhi High Court has granted interim protection to Jiostar India Pvt. Ltd. in a dispute concerning media and commercial rights of the Legends League Cricket Masters T20 tournament. Hearing a petition under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar restrained the respondent, Absolute Legends Sports Pvt. Ltd., from creating any third-party rights or transferring, assigning, or otherwise dealing with the league’s media and commercial rights.
Jiostar had approached the Court seeking multiple interim measures, including securing alleged dues of over ₹3.59 crore and preventing any transfer or commercial exploitation of league rights pending arbitration. It also sought to restrain the respondents from broadcasting or streaming the tournament and from entering into further agreements affecting its contractual rights.
The Court noted that while the respondent acknowledged certain outstanding dues, no amicable settlement had been reached despite mediation efforts. It observed that there was an urgent need to safeguard the subject matter of the dispute, particularly to prevent dissipation of assets and assignment of intellectual property rights that could prejudice the petitioner’s claims.
Holding that any transfer of rights would lead to “complete erosion” of the dispute’s subject matter, the Court granted interim relief restraining such transfers. Notice was issued in the matter, with the respondents granted one week to file their reply and Jiostar permitted to file a rejoinder thereafter. The case is now listed for further hearing on April 22, 2026.
