Delhi High Court Returns Plaint in Sameer Wankhede Suit Against ‘Ba***ds of Bollywood’, Cites Lack of Jurisdiction

Lack of territorial jurisdiction in defamation

Sameer Dnyandev Wankhede vs. Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. & Ors. [Decision dated January 29, 2025]

The Delhi High Court has returned the plaint filed by Sameer Wankhede, an IRS officer, holding that it lacks territorial jurisdiction to adjudicate the dispute.

The case arose from the defamation suit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede seeking an injunction and takedown of his alleged portrayal in Aryan Khan’s Netflix-directed series ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav observed that it was not the appropriate forum to examine the claims raised by the plaintiff and, accordingly, directed the return of the plaint for presentation before a court of competent jurisdiction, if so advised.
