The Allahabad High Court, presided over by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, heard a criminal appeal filed under Section 14A of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 challenging proceedings initiated against a gym trainer accused of caste abuse, assault, and obscenity.
According to the prosecution, on April 29, 2024, while the complainant was exercising at the appellant’s gym “Fit & Lift” in Meerut, he allegedly used caste-based slurs, pushed her on the chest, hurled abuses, and forced her out. In her statement, the complainant further alleged that the appellant had prepared and circulated obscene videos of her friend for the past six to seven months. These allegations were stated to attract offences under Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Act, as well as Sections 354 and 504 of the IPC.
Expressing concern over the safety of female clients in gyms run by male trainers without safeguards, the Court directed the Investigating Officer of Police Station Brahmpuri, Meerut to file a personal affidavit clarifying whether the gym is duly registered, whether the appellant has been arrested, and whether female trainers are employed.The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 9, 2025.
