The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu (JKHCBAJ) has announced a complete strike on 21 November 2025 in protest against the recently enforced Jammu and Kashmir Tenancy Act, 2025. The Association stated that several provisions of the Act are contrary to the welfare and professional interests of advocates, prompting the decision to register strong resentment.
The Bar Association further highlighted additional longstanding grievances, including the government’s failure to approve the construction of a multi-storey Bar complex and reports that Traffic Courts are being shifted out of the existing court premises. These developments, the Association said, adversely impact the functioning and professional environment of the legal community in Jammu.
As part of the protest, lawyers will abstain from work across all judicial and quasi-judicial forums, including the High Court, District Courts, CAT, Revenue Courts, Tribunals, and Commissions. The Association has also requested that no adverse orders be passed in matters listed for hearing on the protest day.
A mass protest gathering was scheduled for 12:00 PM on 21 November 2025 at the District Court Complex, Jammu. The Association urged all members to participate and reiterated its demand that the government either roll back or suitably amend the Tenancy Act after consulting stakeholders.
