The Madras High Court has restrained the creation, publication, and circulation of AI-generated or morphed images of actor and politician Kamal Haasan, and has also barred the manufacture and sale of merchandise using his name or likeness, pending further orders in a civil suit instituted by him.

Clarifying the scope of the interim protection, the Court expressly noted that the restraint will not apply to caricature and satire, thereby safeguarding artistic expression and legitimate criticism.
