Madras High Court Declines to Cancel Interim Bail of YouTuber Savukku Shankar; Imposes Additional Restrictive Conditions

Madras High Court

The Madras High Court refused to cancel the interim bail granted to YouTuber-journalist Savukku Shankar in an extortion case, but imposed additional conditions to regulate his conduct during the pendency of proceedings.

A Division Bench comprising Justice P. Velmurugan and Justice M. Jothiraman held that the grounds urged were insufficient to warrant cancellation of interim bail at this stage. However, taking note of the concerns raised by the prosecution, the Court deemed it necessary to tighten the bail conditions.

The Bench directed that Shankar shall not make any statement, directly or indirectly, in connection with the case, including remarks or comments concerning the conduct of the police officers involved. The Court further restrained him from interacting with, influencing, or intimidating the co-accused or witnesses in any manner.

The matter remains pending for further consideration in accordance with law.
