Meta Platforms has approached the Delhi High Court challenging a Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) order that imposed a ₹10,000 penalty on Facebook over the listing of walkie-talkies on its Marketplace platform.
In order dated January 01, the CCPA had held that such listings violated applicable regulatory norms governing the sale of restricted and licensed communication devices. The Order also directed Facebook to implement stricter compliance mechanisms for listings involving regulated products such as walkie-talkies, drones, and GPS devices. It mandated that no product requiring statutory approval or certification be hosted or advertised without full legal compliance and necessary disclosures. Additionally, the platform was directed to conduct periodic self-audits to identify violations and publicly disclose audit certifications.
Challenging these directions, Meta has now moved the High Court.
