Madhya Pradesh HC Directs State to Inform Number of Govt. Schools to Decide Matter Regarding Non-Availability of Teaching Staff

Lok Singh v. State of Madhya Pradesh [Decided on 20-01-2026]

Madhya Pradesh High Court

In a writ petition filed before the Madhya Pradesh High Court with regard to the staffing of schools in the state, a Division Bench of the Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf restricted the petition and directed the indication of the number of Government Schools in the State to decide the matter.

The petition raised a public-interest issue, contending that 499 schools were inadequately staffed with teachers and that 102 schools had no teachers available. A grievance regarding the transfer and posting of officers was also raised. However, the Court was not inclined to entertain the plea, as it would be open to the respective teachers to raise their grievances regarding the transfer orders, and restricted the petition to the issue of inadequate teaching staff.

The Court issued notice to the respondents and directed a reply to be filed on their behalf.

Upon request, the respondents were granted time to file their reply, and the Court directed them to also indicate the number of Government Schools in the State, along with the vacancies in them.

The matter is now listed on 24-02-2026.
