Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, has recently confirmed that the online real money gaming (RMG) ban will officially come into force on 1st October, 2025.
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, received Presidential assent in August and aims to ban harmful money-based games while encouraging e-sports and social gaming.
Mr. Vaishnaw further mentioned that discussions were held with banks and all possible stakeholders before the law was finalized, and that another discussion is scheduled to take place before the final rollout to understand the approach of the industry.
