Delhi HC Seeks Original Writ in Contempt Case Over Portuguese Citizen’s Detention

Paras Narsi vs UOI [Order dated August 11, 2025]
Portuguese Citizen Detention

The Delhi High Court while examining a contempt petition arising from its earlier habeas corpus order in favour of a Portuguese passport holder of Indian origin, Paras Narsi, directed the petitioner’s counsel to file the original writ petition for reference and listed the matter for further hearing on November 27, 2025.

In February 2023, Narsi was restrained at IGI Airport, New Delhi, while en route to Ahmedabad after being deported from the UK. Despite holding a valid e-Tourist visa, he was allegedly denied access to his belongings and onward travel, amounting, the Court held, to unlawful restraint. The Bench had then directed authorities to arrange his onward flight, return his luggage, and act strictly in accordance with law.

Alleging non-compliance with these directions, a contempt plea was later filed through Sejal Kumar Solanki. On August 11, 2025, Justice Amit Sharma directed the petitioner’s counsel to file the original writ petition for reference and listed the matter for further hearing on November 27, 2025.
