Priya S. Kapur to move the Delhi High Court seeking temporary and permanent injunctions against her sisters-in-law, Mandhira Kapur Smith and another, alleging harassment, defamation and threats to forcibly dispossess her and her minor son from their South Delhi residence.
As per information received the civil suit, presently under defects, seeks protection of Kapur’s peaceful possession of a Kapur Family’s residential property at Rajokri, New Delhi, where she claims to be residing as the sole lawful lessee. She has also sought restraint orders against the defendants from publishing or circulating allegedly defamatory content on social media and other platforms, along with directions for removal of existing online material.
According to the plaint, Kapur is the widow of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. She has alleged that following his death, long-standing family and business disputes escalated into threats, extortion attempts and public vilification. The plaintiff is already contesting a suit regarding the Will of Late Sanjay Kapur in the Delhi High Court wherein Rani Kapur (Mother of Defendants and Sanjay Kapur) has also challenged Plaintiff’s claim to the entire Kapur Estate.
A key grievance raised concerns the publication of videos and interviews on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), which Kapur claims contain false and defamatory statements causing reputational harm and distress to her and her children. The suit also alleges repeated threats of forcible entry and dispossession, prompting her to seek injunctive relief and police protection.
The Bar Bulletin Team has found a factual error in the plaint, wherein the name of the father of the defendants has been mentioned as late Shri Vikramjit Kapur by Plaintiff. However, the records state that the correct name is Surinder Kapur.
