The Jharkhand High Court at Ranchi presided by Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary, heard Petition filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi seeking to quash criminal defamation proceedings against him.
Earlier, on May 17, 2024, the Court had granted Rahul Gandhi time subject to his depositing ₹1,000 with the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA). At the latest hearing, he once again sought an adjournment. The Court permitted the request but imposed an additional cost of ₹2,000, to be deposited with JHALSA within three weeks.
The Court cautioned that failure to make the deposit within the stipulated time would result in automatic dismissal of the petition without further reference to the Bench. The matter was directed to be listed after three weeks, subject to proof of deposit being filed.
