SC Stays Calcutta HC Order on WBJEE Merit List; Paves Way for Bengal’s June 10 Reservation Policy

Reservation Policy 2025

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Calcutta High Court directive that had asked the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board to redraw its merit list based on a pre-2010 OBC classification.

The Supreme Court’s intervention clears the immediate roadblock to the declaration of WBJEE 2025 results and, more importantly, upholds the applicability of the State’s reservation policy notified on June 10, 2025, for all ongoing and future admissions and recruitments.

The State was represented by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, assisted by the legal team from Fox & Mandal comprising Mr. Debanjan Mandal (Managing Partner), Mr. Kunal Vajani (Joint Managing Partner), Mr. Sandip Dasgupta (Partner), Mr. Kunal Mimani (Partner), Ms. Mahima Cholera (Senior Associate), Mr. Prashant Alai (Senior Associate), and Mr. Abhinav Rana (Associate).
