The Supreme Court heard the plea filed by former Chief of the Telangana Special Intelligence Bureau, T. Prabhakar Rao in the ongoing phone tapping case. The State Government’s counsel asserted that the petitioner has not been cooperating with the trial and has withheld crucial information and access to electronic devices. In response, the petitioner’s lawyer maintained that he has attended the trial 15 times and is cooperating to the extent possible.
The bench comprising Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice R. Mahadevan directed the petitioner to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and trial proceedings, and adjourned the hearing to 8 October 2025.
The case involves allegations against the petitioner relating to unauthorized phone tapping and surveillance activities conducted during his tenure. FIRs were registered alleging misuse of intelligence resources for unlawful surveillance implicating public officials, politicians, and citizens. The petitioner had earlier secured anticipatory bail from the Telangana High Court which was upheld by the Supreme Court, granting him interim protection from arrest while investigations continue.
