The Supreme Court on September 15, 2025 ordered a CBI probe into a B. Com degree allegedly forged by an Advocate. The Division Bench of Justices Manoj Mishra and Ujjal Bhuyan found the allegations to be serious enough for an independent investigation.
The matter arose from an earlier order of the Court dated 09.05.2025, directing the Advocate to produce photocopies of the B.Com degree and marksheet under which he claimed to be a graduate, following allegations by the Controller of Examination of Magadh University that his mark-sheet and B.Com degree were forged. In compliance, the Advocate submitted a photocopy of his B.Com degree for the three-year course he undertook in August 1991, contending that the University’s records had been torn and that verification of the degree was therefore inconclusive.
The Court, noting all the submissions stated above, directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inquire into whether the B.Com degree produced by the Advocate was genuine or forged. Accordingly, the CBI Director was directed to depute an officer and submit a report by 30 November 2025, with the case being listed for 9th December, 2025.
