The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed of a PIL seeking a comprehensive regulatory framework to curb misuse of AI-generated content, after noting that the Union Government has already published draft amendments to the IT Rules, 2021 to address the issue.
Appearing for Meta Platforms, Senior Advocates Arvind P. Datar and Mukul Rohatgi informed the Bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi that the Ministry of Electronics and IT had released draft rules in October inviting public comments, and stakeholder consultations were underway, including a meeting held on November 13.
Recording that the Government is already engaging with the subject and that no further judicial intervention is required for now, the Court disposed of the petition.
