On 17 November 2025, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh concluded the trial relating to the 2024 student-led uprising and convicted ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of crimes against humanity. The Tribunal sentenced her to death by hanging for ordering a violent crackdown that resulted in multiple deaths during the protests.
The Tribunal further sentenced former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun to five years’ imprisonment after he admitted his involvement. In addition to the death sentence, Sheikh Hasina was also awarded a life sentence on separate charges of crimes against humanity.
