Supreme Court Acquits Surendra Koli in Nithari Killings Case; Now Acquitted in All Cases

Surendra Koli acquittal

The Supreme Court on November 11, 2025, acquitted Surendra Koli, the prime accused in the 2005-2006 Nithari killings, in the last pending case against him. The Bench of Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice Surya Kant, and Justice Vikram Nath allowed Koli’s curative petition, setting aside his conviction and life sentence. Koli’s 2011 conviction by the Supreme Court had been his only surviving one after he was acquitted in 12 other cases arising from the same incident.

The Nithari killings case came to light in 2006 after skeletal remains of several children were discovered in a drain behind a house in Nithari, Noida, where Surendra Koli worked as a domestic aide. He was accused of luring children to the house, sexually assaulting and murdering them, and disposing of their bodies, triggering one of India’s most horrifying criminal investigations. Following a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Koli faced multiple charges of murder, rape, abduction, and destruction of evidence.

With this decision of Supreme Court, acquitting him in the final pending case, Koli now stands acquitted of all charges linked to the Nithari killings, effectively bringing closure to nearly two decades of litigation surrounding the case.
