On July 10, the Supreme Court asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider Aadhaar cards, Voter ID cards, and Ration cards as valid documents for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Also, allows EC to continue Special Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
The Court was hearing matters related to the electoral roll update process and recorded the ECI’s clarification that the list of eleven documents mentioned in its June 24, 2025 order for proving citizenship was illustrative and not exhaustive.
Emphasizing the need for inclusivity and fairness in the revision process, the Court asked the Commission to adopt a more flexible approach in accepting identity and address proofs for voter verification.
