The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a corruption case alleging the accumulation of disproportionate assets worth over ₹540 crore. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta took into account Majithia’s seven-month custody, the filing of the police report, and the fact that he had earlier been granted bail in an NDPS case in 2022, with the state’s challenge dismissed in 2025. The Court also noted that the alleged assets pertain to a check period between 2007 and 2017, while the FIR was registered in 2025. While allowing bail, the bench left it open to the prosecution to seek stringent conditions from the trial court at the time of release.
