The Supreme Court of India has issued a circular dated September 10, 2025, imposing a complete ban on photography and videography inside its High Security Zone, except for official purposes. The directive, signed by Secretary General Shekhar C. Munghate, lays down strict guidelines to maintain decorum and security within the premises.
Under the new rules, media personnel are restricted to conducting interviews and live broadcasts only from the designated lawn area located in the Low Security Zone. The use of mobile phones for photography or videography, as well as equipment like cameras, tripods, and selfie sticks, is expressly prohibited within the High Security Zone.
The circular warns of disciplinary action in case of violations:
• Advocates, litigants, interns, or law clerks may face action from their respective Bar Associations or State Bar Councils.
• Media personnel violating the ban may have their access to the High Security Zone suspended for up to one month.
• Registry staff and other stakeholders may be subject to departmental disciplinary measures.
Security personnel have been authorized to prevent anyone from attempting to take photographs or record videos in restricted areas.
