The Supreme Court has directed the Karnataka State authorities to file a detailed report on allegations of large-scale forgery and fraud in land transactions in Bengaluru.
The case stems from a dispute over land in Sy. No.4, Beratera Agrahara village, Bengaluru. The complainant alleged that the accused fabricated sale deeds in the names of fictitious or related purchasers. According to the complaint, cheques mentioned in the deeds were never encashed, and signatures were allegedly forged with the connivance of data entry operators and the Sub-Registrar’s office.
Previously, Single judge-bench of the Karnataka High Court comprising Justice K. Natarajan, in its order dated April 18, 2023 refused to quash the FIR against multiple accused, suggesting police investigation in the matter.
Challenging this, Chandrashekar C (Petitioner), approached the Supreme Court by filing a Special Leave Petition. On September 16, 2025, a Bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and S.V.N. Bhatti observed that the State must provide answers to pertinent questions and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch, Bengaluru, to conduct a comprehensive investigation and submit a categorical report. The Court specifically directed inquiry into whether the sale and rectification deeds bore forged signatures and whether the executants ever appeared before the Sub-Registrar, including compliance with biometric requirements.
The Court has sought a categorical finding in a sealed cover, along with responses from the Inspector General of Registration and the Commissioner of Stamps. The matter is now listed for November 11, 2025, till them interim order will continue.
