Supreme Court Develops New Software to Streamline Case Listing and Bench Allocation

In a development aimed at modernising the administrative functioning of the Supreme Court, new software has been developed to assist in the process of case listing and bench allocation.

The initiative has been undertaken during the tenure of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and is part of broader efforts to streamline administrative processes within the Court.

At present, the allocation of cases to different benches of the Supreme Court is carried out by the Chief Justice of India in his capacity as the “master of the roster.” The proposed technological intervention is intended to support the listing process and introduce greater efficiency and transparency in the manner in which cases are placed before benches.

The move follows an internal review that is understood to have highlighted structural issues within the registry, including long tenures of officials in particular posts and continued reliance on outdated administrative systems. Sources indicated that modernising technological infrastructure was considered necessary to reduce the scope for administrative irregularities and improve overall case management.
