The Supreme Court has extended the deadline for counselling and admissions to pharmacy courses in Madhya Pradesh till December 31, 2025, taking note of more than 9,000 seats lying vacant across undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programmes in the State. The extension was granted on a plea filed by the Association of Technical and Professional Institutes, Madhya Pradesh (ATPI, MP).
A Bench comprising Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha and Justice Atul S. Chandurkar observed that a large number of seats in pharmacy colleges remained unfilled and accordingly extended the counselling schedule for the academic session 2025-26 till December 31.
The plea before the Court highlighted that while the Supreme Court had earlier extended the deadline for approvals granted by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) till November 15, 2025, the corresponding extension of the counselling timeline did not take place. As a result, several institutions whose approvals were granted after October 30 were left without any window to admit students, leading to thousands of seats remaining vacant.
Accepting the submissions that extending the counselling deadline would serve the interests of students and institutions, the court has granted the extension till December 31, 2025.
