A Supreme Court Bench comprising Hon’ble Justice Aravind Kumar and Hon’ble Justice Prasanna B. Varale has issued notice on a petition highlighting the non-payment of stipend to Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) undergoing compulsory internship in the State of Gujarat. The petitioners, represented by Advocate Ms. Tanvi Dubey, have pointed out a continuing disparity in stipend disbursement between Indian Medical Graduates and FMGs, despite multiple circulars issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The plea emphasizes that Clause 3 of Schedule IV of the National Medical Commission (Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship) Regulations, 2021, clearly mandates payment of stipend to all interns as fixed by the competent authority. However, the regulation is allegedly not being implemented in the case of FMGs.
Taking note of the submissions, the Court has issued notice and tagged the matter with an existing batch of petitions concerning similar grievances relating to non-payment of stipend to FMGs.
