Nine Years After Removal as BCCI President, Supreme Court Lifts Ban on Anurag Thakur

Supreme Court lifts Anurag Thakur ban

In a major relief to former BCCI president Anurag Thakur, the Supreme Court has lifted the ban restraining him from holding office and participating in BCCI affairs. Thakur was removed as BCCI president in 2017 for failing to implement the Lodha Committee reforms. While passing the order, a CJI-led Bench noted that the ban had continued for nearly nine years, that Thakur had tendered an unconditional apology, and that the restriction was never intended to operate as a lifelong bar.
