The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned sine die a plea seeking directions to secure the release of Nimisha Priya, a Kerala nurse on death row in Yemen, after being informed that negotiations to save her life are currently underway.
A Bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta recorded the submission made on behalf of the petitioner, Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, regarding ongoing diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, and refrained from passing further directions at this stage.
The Court granted liberty to the parties to mention the matter for relisting in the event of any change in circumstances requiring judicial intervention.
Senior Advocate Raghenth Basant appeared for the Petitioner and Additional Solicitor General Vikramjit Banerjee appeared for the Union Government.
