The Supreme Court on Wednesday partially modified its August 12, 2025 order and revived enforcement action in the National Capital Region (NCR) against diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years that do not meet Bharat Stage-IV (BS-IV) emission norms.
A Bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi clarified that the earlier direction granting protection from “coercive action” would now apply only to vehicles compliant with BS-IV or higher emission standards. As a result, vehicles conforming to BS-III or lower norms will once again be liable to enforcement measures, including impounding.
