The Supreme Court has invited suggestions and views from stakeholders regarding applications received for designation as Senior Advocates under the Guidelines for Designation of Senior Advocates, 2026. The notice has been issued by the Committee for Designation of Senior Advocates (CDSA).
According to the notice dated March 16, 2026, applications have been received pursuant to earlier notices issued on February 12 and February 19, 2026 inviting advocates to apply for conferment of the Senior Advocate designation.
The Court has published a list of 293 advocates who have applied for the designation in the February–March 2026 cycle. In terms of paragraphs 11 and 12 of the designation guidelines, stakeholders have been invited to submit their suggestions or views on the proposals for designation, which will be placed before the Full Court for consideration.
The notice states that suggestions or comments, along with verifiable material, may be submitted at the CDSA Secretariat located in the Administrative Building Complex of the Supreme Court or sent via email. The deadline for submitting representations has been fixed at 4:30 PM on April 1, 2026, and views received after the stipulated date will not be entertained.
Copies of the notice have also been circulated to the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association, the Bar Council of India, State Bar Councils, and the Registrars General of all High Courts to ensure wider dissemination among members of the legal fraternity.
The final decision regarding designation will be taken by the Full Court of the Supreme Court after considering the recommendations of the CDSA and the feedback received from stakeholders.
