Jharkhand High Court Seeks Clarity on the Conduct of TET Exams

TET Exams

The Jharkhand High Court observed that no fresh Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) examinations have been conducted in the State for the past nine years. The Court noted that recruitment criteria restricting eligibility only to candidates who had qualified the 2016 TET effectively excluded a large number of aspirants, frustrating their opportunity to be considered for appointment as Assistant Teachers.

The Bench further underlined that under the mandate of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the TET is required to be conducted annually. Despite the State filing a counter-affidavit, the Court found that no clear stand had been taken on this issue.

Accordingly, the Court directed the Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of Jharkhand, to clarify whether the State proposes to conduct the TET in the near future, and if so, to specify the timeline within which it intends to do so.

The matter has been posted for further hearing on 22 September 2025 under the caption “Admission.”
