The Delhi High Court dismissed a plea filed by Christian Michel, an accused in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper case, challenging Article 17 of the India–UAE extradition treaty of 1999.
A Division Bench of Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Ravinder Dudeja held that there was no merit in the petition and declined to interfere, observing, “We find no merit in the petition. The same is accordingly dismissed.” A detailed order is awaited.
The Court also upheld the trial court’s decision rejecting Michel’s application seeking release from prison on the ground that he had already undergone the maximum sentence of seven years.
