The Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) has dismissed as infructuous an application filed under Section 482 CrPC by applicant seeking directions to the police to register an FIR regarding his missing licensed revolver, after the State informed the Court that an FIR had eventually been registered in the matter.
The applicant had moved the High Court challenging a 2021 order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate rejecting his plea under Section 156(3) CrPC, as well as a 2024 order of the Revisional Court affirming that rejection. He claimed his licensed .22 bore revolver was lost near Saharaganj Mall, Lucknow on 1 November 2020 and that the police failed to lodge an FIR despite a written complaint submitted on 2 November 2020 .
Earlier, the High Court had sought an explanation from the authorities as to why no FIR was registered in respect of a missing licensed weapon, directing the Commissioner of Police, Lucknow and senior officials in Hardoi to submit written instructions.
Pursuant to the Court’s direction, the State produced written instructions and a copy of FIR No. 325 of 2025, registered under Section 379 IPC at Police Station Hazratganj, Lucknow. Informing the Court that the FIR had finally been lodged, the State said the applicant’s grievance no longer survived .
Recording the development, the Court dismissed the application as having lost its efficacy, bringing an end to the proceedings.
